How is a Hockey game played? How many players must there be to play a game?
Hockey is a high energy sport that requires 2 teams made up of 11 players on each side before any game can begin.
There are usually 5 additional reserved players in each team, to play in substitute of the game player, as and when needed.
It is often played on a rectangular turf (synthetic material) that measures 91.4 metres in length x 55.0 metres in width.
The player in the attacking team must get the ball within the semi circle area and cross the goal line before it can be considered a goal. This is different from soccer, where a player is able to score a goal by kicking the ball straight to the goal post from any point of the field.
How long is one hockey game?
A match spans a total of 1 hour 15 mins, with two 35-minute sessions and 5-minute break in between
How are the scores calculated?
In a league, if a team scores a goal, it will be awarded 3 points. If it is a draw,1 point will be awarded and if it loses the goal to the other team, 0 point is accorded. The team with the highest number of points is the winner of the league.

What is a Play-off?
A play-off is a knock out stage where the teams play for a qualifying round. The winning team will proceed to the next round. For example, from quarter finals -> semis -> finals.
What are the rules of a hockey game?
For beginners, below are the basic rules:
1) No using of legs except the goalkeepers who worn goalkeeping gears
2) No using of the back of hockey sticks (curved surface) to play the ball. Only the flat surfaced side of the hockey stick can be used to hit and guide the ball.
3) No pushing using hands
4) The player must be in the semi circle area to shoot before a goal can be considered. Anywhere outside this area as shooting point will not be accepted.
5) No wearing of obstructive accessories, such as watches, necklaces, etc so the movements of players can be free and unobstructed.
6) Within the 25 yard line area, if there is a free hit, the players must move the ball over 5 metres before playing the ball into the shooting circle.
What are the maximum scores to win the game?
There are no maximum scores to win a game. Within the 70 minutes, the team with the highest score wins the game.
